In my earlier post I highlighted the fact that energy companies may be losing voice on social media. This is especially significant since energy companies no longer do business just in the mineral extraction domain but also in the public domain. This new playing field means companies must communicate not just to shareholders, but also to external stakeholders – everyday folks who are impacted directly and indirectly through resource extraction.
Energy companies are only now coming to the realization that the soapbox was pulled from under their feet – because no one was standing on it firmly to begin with.
That being said, there has been positive traction by the energy firms with respect to engaging in fruitful public discussion and education about the industry.
